Chinese Coins

The only type of actual coins used in the Western Zhou period was cowrie shells used for coins. They could not be found in the sea around China and could thus not be counterfeited. The shells had holes and were often stringed together.

Bei coins are mentioned in hexagram 41, 42 and 51.
No types of other coins, like the ones below from the Eastern Zhou period, are mentioned in the Zhou Yi.
